Guelph:Tax rate to rise 3.14%

City councillors played Robin Hood Thursday night, dipping into the city’s reserves to chip away at the 2011 tax rate. Council passed a $167-million operating budget, which represents a 3.14 per cent tax increase.

But it came at a longer-term cost.

This should be a tax increase of .78% to the local tax bill. 2010 taxes X (3.14% - (2.36% net Population increase) = 0.78% poperty tax increase 

The following positions were removed from the budget. The dollar figures beside each indicate what they would have cost this year, keeping in mind none of them represent a full year on the job:
* bylaw supervisor - $103,000
* mobility supervisor - $74,000
* senior corporate analyst - $18,000
* network specialist (library) - $74,500
* communications and marketing coordinator (library) - $16,500
* data analyst (social services) - $51,000
* EMS scheduling coordinator - $32,500
